Be Brave
Be Brave
In my years as a physician, I’ve seen fear in many forms, whether it be in the eyes of a patient facing a new diagnosis or a young resident about to perform a procedure for the first time. We often carry a misconception that brave people are fearless, standing tall without any doubt in their minds. But here’s the truth: courage is not the absence of fear. In fact, if you didn’t feel afraid, you wouldn’t need to be brave. Courage is the beautiful moment when you feel the full weight of your nerves and decide to take a step forward anyway.
Listening to the Signal
We often treat fear like a wall designed to stop our progress, but I prefer to view it as a diagnostic tool. Fear is frequently a signal that you are doing something meaningful. It tends to show up the moment we exit our comfort zones to pursue a greater purpose. Instead of waiting for the fear to fade before you begin your journey, try to recognize that feeling nervous is a natural byproduct of growth. It is a sign that you are standing at the edge of a breakthrough.
One Step at a Time
Being brave rarely requires a great, dramatic act. Most often, it is a series of small choices. It is the decision to speak up when your values are compromised, the willingness to stand by a peer who is doing the right thing against the grain, or the resolve to initiate a difficult conversation that needs to happen. You don’t have to be fearless to be successful or to make an impact on the world. You simply have to be willing to move forward while the fear is still sitting in the passenger seat.
Finding Your Internal Strength
Every time you act despite being afraid, you are providing yourself with proof that you are stronger than your anxiety. You begin to learn that while discomfort is temporary, the pride of moving toward your purpose is permanent. You are allowed to be scared, and you are entirely allowed to be nervous. The only thing you shouldn’t do is let those feelings keep you standing still. Real strength is found in feeling the tremor in your hands and choosing to walk through the door regardless.
Strengthening the Courage Muscle
Courage is like a muscle. It grows stronger every time you use it and refuse to let the “what ifs” outweigh “what could be.” We rarely admire those who had an easy path. We admire those who struggled through the cold wind of doubt and continued to march. The world needs your unique contribution, so stop waiting for the perfect moment to begin. Step forward today and leave the fear behind.

I totally agree with muscle reference, the more you use courage the stronger it becomes.
